INFO: Dakota’s Geologic Heritage: Our cat Dakota is named after Dakota Sandstone. Outcrops of this sandstone north of Moab have coloration very similar to our cat. Dakota Sandstone (Cretaceous) often serves as a cap rock to the dinosaur bone laden Morrison Formation (Jurassic). When we brought home our new cat the name seemed perfect. We have had Dakota for about 3 years now. He joins our 17 year old Calico, named Shadow.
