| Preparations are going smoothly for the coming 1300 mile trip to Moab. Lawn needs one more raking, a visit to the bank for funds will definately be needed, arrangements with my spouse (who is unable to go) are completed, absentee ballot for the coming election has been mailed, and a building project in the yard is at a stage where the fall weather can no longer can have a negative affect on it. (It now has a roof.) Moab area books and maps are being studied, relatives in Colorado are on notice for a three day visit, and the time for leaving cannot come soon enough. What else do needs to be done?? This trip is called a Shunpiker trip. 'Shunpiker' is a term from colonial days refering to travelers who would walk a route through the woods to avoid paying the tolls on the turnpikes - which many main routes between cities were then called. Therefore this trip will be on two lane highways as much as possible. I would certainly appreciate lots of suggestions for some interesting routes from the Twin Cities area of Minnesota to Moab on the two-lanes and backroads. How about it? |
