Sally’s Arch – There’s a reason that you can’t find this one – it’s gone! It collapsed recently and is now just a pile of debris. It was 6 miles from the end of the pavement on Potash Road.
Tusher Tunnel – You can find a great description and map in the book “Moab UT Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails”, by Charles A Well. I strongly recommend this book for anyone visiting the Moab area with an off-road vehicle. It’s the best out there. Basically, drive north of Moab on Highway 191 to Mill Canyon Rd (just north of mile post 141). Drive across the railroad tracks and pass a parking area. At .7 miles bear right. The road drops down into a wash at mile 2.6. Turn left and follow the wash to another intersection (2.7 miles). A sign indicates a Jeep trail to the left. Turn left at 3.6 miles and again, on a lesser road, at 3.7 miles. Bear left again at 4.6 miles as the road climbs ahead. Turn right at the bottom of the hill (a few yards) as a lesser road goes left. In about .2 miles you reach a turnaround area. Park there and hike a short distance up to the tunnel.
Dellenbaugh Tunnel – I haven’t personally been to this one but I know that it can be reached off the Secret Spire Trail, which is reached from the Dubinky Well road off highway 313. The Secret Spire trail rides the rolling mesa top between two of the Green River's large tributary canyons, Hellroaring and Spring Canyons. It goes close to the deep portions of Spring Canyon, and it crosses the shallower upper Spring Canyon to visit a strange tower, dubbed the Secret Spire. There is a spur to Dellenbaugh Tunnel off this trail, but having never been there I’m not exactly sure where the spur is.
Hope some of that helps...

| Robert, Thanks for the reply. I will no longer look for Sallys Arch. Tusher Tunnel is worth another try - perhaps when I am there in November. On my first try I ended on a maze of rocky, barren, hilly trails probably just to the northeast. Second try ended on a rock shelf some 50 feet above what I believe was the Barlett Wash trail. Was I close?? I went both directions on the Secret Spire trail but was unable to find the turn-off to Dellenbaugh Tunnel. I use the Wells book a lot, especially the useful map pages, and indeed, it is very good. The F. A. Barnes series, though older, is still very good with somewhat better directions for route finding and includes many trails not in the Wells book. But there are no trail maps. For maps I use the Latitude 40 Moab West and East Mountain Biking and Recreation Maps and also F. A. Barnes' Recreation Map of the Moab Area and Canyon Country Vicinity #46, and a couple of others. |
