Winter Wonderland

During my years of travel in southern Utah I have witnessed some of the most spectacular scenery imaginable. If you have spent any time looking around my website you probably have gotten the idea that I think southern Utah is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. However, every once in a while I experience something that seems to eclipse everything I have seen before. For a fleeting moment these experiences seem to push the boundaries of reality beyond all previous limits. To witness such intense natural beauty is almost like entering a dream world.

On January 2, 2003 my wife Rhonda and I wandered into one of the most beautiful snow covered landscapes imaginable. A light dusting of snow, coupled with a mysterious layer of fog, created one of the most beautiful and ethereal red rock landscapes we had ever seen. We suddenly found ourselves immersed within a delicate, crystalline world of total beauty and silence.

I paused and remembered the trials and tribulations of 2002. Looking around at the splendid beauty of 2003, I savored the moment. What an incredible time to be alive.
